20 Aug 2024: Update (10 September 2024): A total of three people have now died due to the CO2 leak, one on 26 August and two others since then. All work on the onshore substation have been suspended during investigations but offshore work continues and the project schedule remains unchanged. An accident involving the leakage of carbon dioxide from 56 out of 262 fire-fighting cylinders occurred at the onshore pressure reduction station of the Hai Long offshore wind project. 17 workers were hospitalised, and 3 OHCA patients were successfully resuscitated and regained signs of life. All of them have been sent to the hospital for treatment. The Changhua County Fire Department stated that the cause of the accident was suspected to be due to careless installation.
