Fukushima Forward - phase 1 Floating Wind Farm

Japan
Decommissioned
2 MW Capacity
01 Jul 2021: The remaining 5 MW and 2 MW turbines and floating substation will be decommissioned in 2021. The Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI) has set a JPY 5 billion budget for carrying out the necessary decommissioning works. Decommissioning has been considered necessary due to low profitability. The 5 MW and 7 MW prototype turbines reportedly had initial troubles cumulating in low availability and low output as well as expensive operational and maintenance costs. The 2 MW turbine preforms well but is insufficient to improve the profitability of this project.
