14 May 2014: After its GOWind project was not selected for a grant by the Department of energy (DoE) it has been reported that Baryonyx has cancelled its offshore wind projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Local reports have stated that the reason for these cancellations are due to inference with migratory birds. Baryonyx has not commented on removing its permit applications or rumours of a desalination project as a replacement of the offshore wind farms. The Texas General Land Office has been reported to have confirmed that Baryonyx has until August to pay the lease rent or it will lose the lease on this project, and that it has lost the lease on its other project due to not paying the rent on the area.
